If you saw this post then you saw my spiritual traveler’s notebook. In that notebook I had an insert for a prayer journal. I have been on a mission to improve my prayer life. I love the idea of writing your prayers and prayer requests down so that you can look back on them and see how they’ve been answered. But I wasn’t using that prayer journal daily like I should have been.
Recently I received an email from Leighann Dutton with her new blog post from Intentional By Grace. She uses a bullet journal as well and she had been using a large binder as a prayer notebook. She found a way to combine the two ideas in a much smaller journal and use the style of the bullet journal to organize it. Then as I was searching YouTube(because when you do research, YouTube is where you go right?!) I came across Gina Garland’s video about her prayer notebook. Her idea was the same as the large notebook that Leighann Dutton had. The problem for me was I didn’t want to carry around a three ring binder! I wanted my prayer journal to be compact so I could feel free to take it with me anywhere I go.
So I used Gina’s setup along with the ideas of Leighann to make it bullet journal style and came up with my own personal prayer journal! I like to call it my “Mobile War Room”!
My Prayer Journal
I use a black Picadilly journal for my personal writing journal and when I saw this Sunflower color I had to get it! I had no clue at the time what I would use it for. And then I came across the prayer journal ideas and I knew it was meant to be! I dressed it up with some washi tape and a Project Life card with one of my favorite scriptures written on it. (The tape on the card keeps peeling up so I don’t know how long that will last. But it’s cute right?!) I love these journals! They have amazing paper. I can use watercolors, fountain pen, and distressed inks and there’s no bleed through! PLUS they are only about $6 at Barnes and Noble where I normally purchase them, however I did find this color at Books-A-Million for the same price! They are always clearance priced at both stores so I’m hoping that they aren’t going to stop selling them. If they do, that will be me in the store racking up on them! BUY ALL THE PICADILLY JOURNALS!! LOL
As I mentioned, I used Gina’s setup for my my prayer journal. In her video she mentions that you can email her to get the printout of the prayer notebook setup. I did that and here is my prayer journal. Mind you this is not completed because I wanted to share it here with you before I started writing in my prayers and prayer requests. I spent the day Wednesday setting it up and I LOVE it! My hope is that it helps me to get into a daily practice of prayer.
From the bullet journal system, I incorporated the index. This will help me find certain things quickly when I need to. I numbered the pages and put an index at the front. In the first section are my daily prayers. These are all things that I will pray for daily. I open with praise and worship(song lyrics, scriptures, praise to God) and prayers for myself, my hubby, my marriage, and my children. For each person/topic there is a place for general prayers and then a place for specific prayer requests. I used Project Life cards to make “dividers” and just left a certain number of pages for each person/topic. Here I will go by her prayer notebook setup and just list things to pray for bullet style.
The second section is for weekly prayers. For each day of the week, I picked a certain topic to pray for. So along with my daily prayers in the first section, I will go to that day’s page in the second section and pray those prayers as well. Here is how I divided my days in the weekly section, again using Project Life cards as “dividers” and giving each section a certain number of pages.
The blue marker you see on the last picture marks the leftover pages I had which I will just use for overflow if needed. I am loving this setup and looking forward to putting it to use in my prayer life. I love that I now have an outline of WHAT to pray each day. I also love that I can take this journal with me if I need to without having to drag around a huge binder! The prayer notebook packet that you can get from Gina has everything you need to get started and get your prayers written down! Of course you don’t have to follow it completely but it is very helpful. I am using it as an outline. I’m looking forward to growing in my prayer life with this new prayer journal! I have already added a few prayer requests from some of my friends on Facebook!
If you would like to see a YouTube video showing more detail please let me know! I’d be happy to put it together! Even though this post is pretty thorough I know some prefer to watch the video and hear it described!
Do you keep a prayer journal or notebook? Would you use this method? I’d love to chat with you in the comments!
